Ladies are my Thing

My Mom gifted me my first Lady figurine. I was going through a transition period in my life and my Mom said she gave her to me so that I could look at her, and remember to be strong. She looks like a formidable force, like she can carry the world on her shoulders.
One time a man I was dating said, he was tired of dating show ponies, and that he was glad he had found a thorough bred, me. Ha! Look, as non romantic as that statement was, (yes he compared me to a horse), but I found it flattering and frankly still do. Somehow the horse statement always reminds me of Lady #01.
A few years ago, I was walking downtown Austin with my best friend and on the corner of 2nd and Lavaca-- I saw her, Lady #02. I knew I had to have her, I just connected with her, she looked strong and yet vulnerable and maybe even worry stricken; which is where I was in my life at the time. I went back the next day, paid my money and brought her home with me.
Let’s just say that Lady #03 came into my life at a time where soul searching was at the top of my to-do list. I was going through a rough time, I had done some things I was ashamed of, and devastated the man I was with, but still felt human and yearned for forgiveness.
She looked honest. She’s was on her knees, praying, begging for forgiveness and validation; her delicate hands and wings burned on the outside. Some moments, I still feel that way. When I know I’ve hurt someone, it takes years for me to work through the guilt.
Lady #04 was a birthday gift from my Mom. My poor Mother just wanted me to have a little peace in my life, and I was on the road to it, so when I moved past Lady #03, #04 was my focus. She sits on my bed side table, and when I wake up in the morning, I see her as peaceful and strong and centered.
Our homes are sacred, our turf, places where we tell our own story; where we come from, who and what we love, our hopes, our dreams.
Ladies are my thing, I gather strength from them and they inspire me. Find what works for you, what inspires you and surround yourself with it.
