Your Power Lies Within

(originally published in 2018)

What does the word, power mean to you? When do you feel the most powerful?

I took this picture the other day right before I went to go see a healer, basically in a papaya field.

I felt good and beautiful. More beautiful than I’ve felt in quite a while.

Then I posted the photo on Instagram and people were kind and complimentary. And that always feels nice.

On the Instagram caption I wrote, “Your power lies within. Within.”

Because that’s what I believe.

Our power isn’t in status or size or adornments or achievements. Our authentic power can get us those things, but we can also have those things without power.

Hair has always been a kind of security blanket for me. If my hair looks good then I feel better or sexier or prettier. 🌿(This is not prescriptive or a blanket statement for people - just for me) 🌿

I always knew one day I’d have enough authentic power to cut my hair off. That I’d be able to stand in my power and innate beauty — without a lot of hair, without a fun top knot, with out princess hair, without boho chic hair, without much to lean on.

And yesterday I did it. I CUT MY HAIR OFF. And it feels great. A little scary, (but you guys know I love being a little scared and doing it anyway)

Peel back the layers, your power is there, waiting for you to call it, waiting for you to use it, it’s waiting to carry you through your life. Use it, and move the things that are getting in the way of you and all your power.

Your power lies within. WITHIN.
